Barnard College is fully committed to environmental sustainability and to doing all we can to conserve energy, decrease consumption, and reduce our carbon footprint. To this end, we continually strive to purchase recycled materials for daily operations and construction, and actively promote awareness campaigns aimed at reducing waste and encouraging sustainable practices throughout our campus.

The Cheryl and Philip Milstein Center for Teaching and Learning, designed by SOM, will stand as a prime example of this commitment. Sustainability is a core value at Barnard and will be an essential feature of the building. SOM is known for innovative sustainable strategies that go beyond existing standards, integrating environmentally sound principles at every stage of the project. With an anticipated U.S. Green Building Council LEED rating of Silver, The Milstein Center will help set the New York City standard for green technology and building practices.
