Why does Barnard need your support?

bullet Every promising woman deserves a Barnard education. To keep the Barnard experience accessible, the College fully meets every student's demonstrated financial need. This is why the annual support of alumnae, parents, and friends is so vital.

bullet Tuition covers only 69-percent of a Barnard education's total cost. Even a student whose family is able to pay full tuition receives the equivalent of a 31-percent subsidy on her education, when all costs are considered.

bullet The Barnard endowment pales in comparison to those of peer institutions. A stronger endowment is needed to enhance Barnard's ability to attract and keep the best faculty, improve research and residential facilities, and provide students with scholarship and internships.

bullet Barnard's dedicated and passionate teacher/scholars must do more with less. Barnard professors meet high standards of teaching and scholarship, but with significantly fewer resources. For example, Barnard has only 11 named professorships; the number of professorships at our peer colleges ranges from 30 to 70.
